HOUSE BILL 831

 

AN ACT TO ESTABLISH SEASONS FOR HUNTING FOXES WITH WEAPONS AND WITH TRAPS IN GATES COUNTY.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

 

Section 1.  Notwithstanding any other provision of law, there is an open season for taking foxes with weapons from December 1 through January 1 of each year.

Sec. 2.  Notwithstanding any other provision of law, there is an open season for taking foxes by trapping from January 2 or the last day of deer season, whichever is later, through January 31 of each year.  During this season, all leghold traps set on dry land with solid anchor shall have at least three swivels in the trap chain and no leghold traps larger than size one and one-half may be used.

Sec. 3.  A season bag limit of 30 applies in the aggregate to all foxes taken during the weapons and trapping seasons established in this act.

Sec. 4.  The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission shall provide for the sale of foxes taken lawfully pursuant to this act.

Sec. 5.  This act applies only to Gates County.

Sec. 6.  This act shall become effective October 1, 1989, and shall apply to offenses occurring on or after that date.
