AN ACT TO ABOLISH THE ELECTIVE OFFICE OF MITCHELL COUNTY ACCOUNTANT SO AS TO ALLOW THE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS TO APPOINT A COUNTY FINANCE OFFICER UNDER THE GENERAL LAW.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

 

Section 1.  Section 7 of Chapter 973, Session Laws of 1967, is amended by deleting the words ", and County Accountant".

Sec. 2.  No County Accountant shall be elected by the voters of Mitchell County in 1984 or thereafter.

Sec. 3.  This act is effective upon ratification.  The current County Accountant of Mitchell County shall serve until the first Monday of December of 1984, and the office of County Accountant of Mitchell County is abolished as of that date; provided that if the office shall become vacant at an earlier date, it is abolished as of the existence of the vacancy.
