SENATE BILL 859

 

AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR THE ELECTION AND TERMS OF THE MEMBERS OF SAMPSON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

 

Section 1. The Board of County Commissioners of Sampson County shall consist of five members who shall be nominated and elected by the qualified voters of the entire County. The members shall be elected for staggered terms of four years as herein provided. The primary and election shall be held and conducted in accordance with the general election laws of this State except as otherwise provided herein.

Sec. 2. Beginning with the general election for County officers to be held in 1976, the three candidates receiving the highest number of votes shall be elected for terms of four years, and the two candidates receiving the next highest number of votes shall be elected for terms of two years. Thereafter, as the terms of the members expire, their successors shall be elected for terms of four years.

Sec. 3. Vacancies occurring on the Board of County Commissioners for any cause shall be filled as provided in G.S. 153A-27.

Sec. 4. This act shall become effective upon ratification.
