SENATE BILL 479

 

AN ACT TO AMEND THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF ROANOKE RAPIDS TO PROVIDE THAT THE CITY COUNCIL SHALL CONSIST OF FOUR MEMBERS AND A MAYOR ELECTED AT LARGE.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1.  Section 3.1 of Article III of Section 1 of Chapter 1054, Session Laws of 1967, is hereby rewritten to read as follows:

"Sec. 3.1. Composition of City Council. The government of the City of Roanoke Rapids shall be the Council-Mayor form, and shall consist of four Councilmen and a Mayor who shall be elected, at large, by the qualified voters of the City in the manner provided by law."

Sec. 2.  Sec. 4.1 and Sec. 4.2 of Article IV of Section 1 of Chapter 1054, Session Laws of 1967, as amended by Section 2 of Chapter 164, Session Laws of 1969, is hereby amended by deleting the word "five" wherever it appears therein and by inserting in lieu thereof the word "four".

Sec. 3.  Sec. 3.2 of Article III of Section 1 of Chapter 1054, Session Laws of 1967, as rewritten by Section 1 of Chapter 164, Session Laws of 1969, is hereby amended by deleting from the fourth sentence thereof the word and figure "five (5)".

Sec. 4.  This act shall become effective upon ratification.
