SENATE BILL 677

 

 

AN ACT TO PERMIT THE CITY OF ROXBORO TO SELL AT PRIVATE SALE CERTAIN SURPLUS REAL ESTATE.

 

WHEREAS, on July 23, 1966, and again on November 19, 1966, the City of Roxboro offered for sale at public auction in accordance with the law the following described surplus property: City maintenance lot located in the City of Roxboro on the East side of North Main Street just South of the Bullock Lumber Company and North of the Junior Order meeting house. This is property acquired by the city from Helen W. Brooks and T. Carlyle Brooks on March 14, 1940, by deed of record in Book 49, page 390, of the Person County Register of Deeds. The property is approximately 144 feet wide by 248 feet deep; and

WHEREAS, the high bid received at either sale for the said property was ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00); and

WHEREAS, the said bid was in the opinion of the City Council inadequate and was rejected; and

WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Roxboro is of the opinion that it can negotiate a private sale at a price acceptable to it: Now, therefore,

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. The City Council of the City of Roxboro is authorized to sell at private sale, for such price as it may see fit in excess of ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00), the above described lands.

Sec. 2. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.

Sec. 3. This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after its ratification; provided however, this authority shall expire January 1, 1968.
