SENATE BILL 327

 

 

AN ACT RELATING TO THE ELECTION OF THE TOWN COUNCILMEN OF THE TOWN OF COLUMBUS IN POLK COUNTY.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. At the regular municipal election of members of the Town Council of the Town of Columbus in Polk County in 1969 there shall be elected three councilmen. The elected councilman receiving the highest number of votes shall serve for a term of four years and until his successor is duly elected and qualified. The other two elected councilmen shall serve for terms of two years each and until their successors are duly elected and qualified. At the regular municipal election of the Town of Columbus in 1971, and biennially thereafter, only two councilmen shall be elected. In each such election the elected councilman receiving the highest number of votes shall serve for a term of four years and the elected councilman receiving the lowest number of votes shall serve for a term of two years.

Sec. 2. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 3. This Act shall become effective upon its ratification.
