AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE ASHE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION TO CONVEY TO THE TOWN OF WEST JEFFERSON CERTAIN PROPERTY TO BE USED FOR COMMUNITY PURPOSES.

 

WHEREAS, the Ashe County Board of Education owns certain property formerly known as a Community Building and which was once used for Community Center purposes; and

WHEREAS, such property is not needed by said Board for school purposes; and

WHEREAS, said building has become somewhat dilapidated; and

WHEREAS, the Town of West Jefferson desires to take over said building, place it in good repair, put a new roof on it, and install a suitable furnace; and

WHEREAS, said Town desires to maintain and operate said building for community meetings and uses: Now, therefore,

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. The Ashe County Board of Education is hereby authorized, in its discretion, to convey to the Town of West Jefferson the property known as the Community Building or site, more particularly described as follows:

"Beginning on a 30-inch locust, located on southwest side of School Street, the Rex Morton and W. J. School Property corner, running with southwest edge of said street, North 48 degrees 41 minutes West 252.0 feet to iron stake; thence leaving said street, South 1 degree 35 minutes East 149.1 feet to iron stake in the Rex Morton line; thence with said line and the said School Property line, South 84 degrees 30 minutes East 186.0 feet to point of beginning, containing 0.31 acre more or less."

Sec. 2. Such conveyance shall contain a provision that the property is to be used for the purposes recited in the preamble to this Act and that, if and when said Town of West Jefferson should cease to maintain and operate said property for proper community purposes, said property shall revert to the Ashe County Board of Education.

Sec. 3. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 4. This Act shall become effective upon its ratification.
