AN ACT INCREASING THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE AVERY COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS FROM THREE TO FIVE AND PROVIDING FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF THE ADDITIONAL MEMBERS.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. The Avery County Board of County Commissioners shall consist of five members.

Sec. 2. To the Board of County Commissioners of said county, now composed of three members, there is hereby appointed Dr. Lawson Tate, whose term shall expire on the first Monday in December 1970, and W. B. Wilkins, whose term shall expire on the first Monday in December 1968.

Sec. 3. At the election of county officers to be held in Avery County in 1968, there shall be elected three county commissioners. At said election the candidate receiving the highest number of votes shall serve for a term of four years, and the other two candidates who are elected shall serve for a term of two years.

Sec. 4. At the election of county officers to be held in Avery County in 1970, and biennially thereafter, there shall be elected four county commissioners. At said election the candidate receiving the highest number of votes shall serve for a term of four years and the other three candidates who are elected shall serve for a term of two years.

Sec. 5. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with the provisions of this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 6. This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after its ratification.
