HOUSE BILL 83

 

 

AN ACT TO AMEND THE CHARTER OF THE TOWN OF SYLVA RELATING TO MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. That Section 5 of Chapter 72, Private Laws of 1899, as amended by Chapter 27, Session Laws of North Carolina of 1957, the same being the Charter of the Town of Sylva, be and the same is hereby amended by striking out the words "Jackson County Board of Elections" as they appear in lines 3 and 16 of subsection (b) thereof, and inserting in lieu thereof in each instance the words "Board of Aldermen of the Town of Sylva."

Sec. 2. That Section 5 of Chapter 72, Private Laws of 1899, as amended by Chapter 27, Session Laws of 1957, be and the same is hereby further amended by striking out the words "Chairman of the Jackson County Board of Elections" as they appear in lines 4 and 5 and lines 18 and 19 of subsection (c) thereof, and inserting in lieu thereof in each instance the words "Town Clerk of the Town of Sylva."

Sec. 3. That Section 5 of Chapter 72, Private Laws of 1899, as amended by Chapter 27, Session Laws of 1957, be and the same is hereby further amended by striking out the words "Jackson County Board of Elections" as they appear in lines 1, 5 and 6, 10 and 14 of subsection (e) thereof, and inserting in lieu thereof in each instance the words "Board of Aldermen of the Town of Sylva."

Sec. 4. That Section 5 of Chapter 72, Private Laws of 1899, as amended by Chapter 27, Session Laws of 1957, be and the same is hereby further amended by adding a new subsection immediately following subsection (g), to be numbered subsection (h), and to read as follows: "(h) The provisions of Article 3 of Chapter 160 of the General Statutes of North Carolina which are not in conflict with the provisions of this Act shall be applicable to all elections held in the Town of Sylva."

Sec. 5. That Chapter 215, North Carolina Session Laws of 1951, and all other laws and clauses of laws in conflict with the provisions of this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 6. This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after its ratification.
