AN ACT TO AMEND G. S. 157-3(2) RELATING TO THE DEFINITION OF THE WORD "CITY".

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. G. S. 157-3(2) is hereby rewritten to read as follows:

"(2)      'City' shall mean any city or town having a population of more than five thousand (5,000) inhabitants according to the last Federal census or any revision or amendment thereto; provided, that in Alleghany, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Hertford, Macon, Swain, Transylvania, Jackson, Haywood, Madison, Buncombe, Henderson, and Polk Counties 'city' shall mean any city or town having a population of more than five hundred (500) inhabitants according to the last Federal census or any revision or amendment thereto".

Sec. 2. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 3. This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after its ratification.
